BackdropAI Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 29, 2026

1. Who we are

BackdropAI is a Shopify app developed and operated by Jonathan Schwalbe Öhrström (jonathan@ohrstrom.nu). The app removes backgrounds from product images using the remove.bg API and is distributed through the Shopify App Store.

2. What data we collect

When you install and use BackdropAI, we store the following data:
  • Shop domain — to identify your Shopify store and maintain your session.
  • Subscription information — your current plan, credit balance, billing period dates, and Shopify subscription ID.
  • Credit transaction history — a log of background removals, top-up purchases, and plan activations, including the product title and Shopify product ID where applicable.
We do not store product images. Images are sent directly to the remove.bg API for processing and returned to your browser as a preview. Images are only uploaded to your Shopify product media if you click "Confirm & Apply".

3. How we use your data

We use the data we collect solely to:
  • Provide and operate the background removal service.
  • Track and enforce credit usage and subscription limits.
  • Display your usage history on the dashboard.
  • Process billing events through the Shopify Billing API.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Third-party services

  • Shopify — We use Shopify's OAuth and Billing API for authentication and payment processing. All billing is handled by Shopify. Shopify's privacy policy applies to data processed through their platform.
  • remove.bg — Product image URLs are sent to the remove.bg API for background removal. remove.bg may process and temporarily store images in accordance with their own privacy policy.

5. Data retention

  • Subscription and credit data is retained while the app is installed on your store.
  • All data associated with your shop is permanently deleted within 48 hours of you uninstalling the app, in accordance with Shopify's GDPR requirements.
  • You may request earlier deletion by contacting us at jonathan@ohrstrom.nu.

6. Your rights

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
  • Access — request a copy of the data we hold about your store.
  • Deletion — request that we delete your store's data.
  • Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Objection — object to any processing of your data.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at jonathan@ohrstrom.nu.

7. Security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Sensitive credentials (API keys, Shopify tokens) are stored as environment variables and never logged or exposed to the client.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
